Safe, Effective Ear Wax Removal
Every ear is different, so we offer a complete range of clinically-approved techniques. This allows us to choose the method that is safest and most effective for you.
Microsuction
Microsuction uses a gentle medical suction device to remove wax while the ear canal is viewed in detail. At Audibility, we use ENT-grade endoscopic visualisation, providing a clear, continuous view of the ear throughout the procedure. This approach also allows us to record the examination and, when appropriate, display the view on a screen for added reassurance.
It is a clean, dry technique and is very comfortable.
Electronic Irrigation
Electronic irrigation uses a controlled flow of warm water to gently wash wax from the ear canal. The pressure and temperature are carefully regulated, making this a gentle and effective option when wax is soft or when a water-based approach is clinically appropriate.
Manual Instrumentation
Manual instrumentation involves the use of specialist tools to gently remove wax with precision. This approach can be particularly helpful when sound intolerance, Tinnitus or balance concerns need to be considered, or for patients who have had previous ear surgery. It is carried out slowly and carefully, with clear explanation throughout.
Paediatric Earwax Removal
In selected cases, earwax removal can be provided for children. Suitability is determined following a careful assessment, taking into account the child’s age, medical history, and ability to sit still and tolerate the procedure.
Where appropriate, treatment is carried out using methods in line with current clinical practice. If a child is not suitable for treatment, we will advise on the most appropriate next steps and ensure you have clear guidance on how to proceed.
Foreign Object Removal
We also safely remove foreign objects from the ear canal — something we encounter regularly in both adults and children.
cotton bud tips
earrings and jewellery
hearing aid domes
foam earplug fragments
the occasional marble from a child’s ear
If something is lodged in the ear, we can help.
