Behind the Scenes: The Journey Begins (July 2024)
July 2024 was the month everything started to move. It was a time of planning, transition and big decisions — the moment Audibility shifted from an idea to a real project with momentum behind it. From early layout sketches to leadership milestones and receiving the keys to the unit, July marked the true beginning of the journey.
A month of planning and possibility
Much of July was spent shaping the earliest version of the clinic — sketching layouts, refining ideas and thinking through how each room should feel and function. Working outdoors on a rare sunny day, the first draft of the floor plan began to take shape. It wasn’t a technical drawing, but it captured the flow, purpose and patient experience that would guide everything that followed.
These early sketches became the foundation for the build, helping to visualise how the consulting room, waiting area and clinical spaces would work together as a calm, welcoming environment.
Closing one chapter, beginning another
July also marked my final day in my previous role — a moment filled with gratitude, reflection and a sense of stepping into something new. It was a natural point of transition, closing a chapter that shaped my clinical approach and opening the door to building something of my own for the community.
BSHAA Connect and becoming Vice President
July also included a significant professional milestone: attending the BSHAA Connect event in Edinburgh and stepping into the role of Vice President. It was a privilege to join colleagues from across the UK to discuss the future of hearing care, share ideas and contribute to the direction of the profession.
The announcement on the BSHAA website marked an important moment in my leadership journey — one that would run in parallel with building Audibility from the ground up.
Getting the keys: the moment it became real
Among all the milestones in July, one stood out above the rest — receiving the keys to the unit. It was the moment everything shifted from planning to reality. Standing inside the empty space for the first time, it was impossible not to imagine what it could become.
Early design decisions
With the keys in hand, the next step was turning ideas into a workable plan. I partnered with Inspired Projects, a local contractor, to begin shaping the layout and preparing for the build. July was all about decisions — how the rooms should flow, where services would run, and how to create a space that felt calm, accessible and clinically sound.
Looking ahead to August
By the end of July, the vision was clear and the groundwork was in place. August would bring the first major transformation — full strip‑out, early construction work and the start of turning plans into walls, rooms and structure.
